MEDIA ADVISORY / New FAO study launch

June 10 - 11:00 AM (Panama) and 12:00 PM (Chile)

On June 10 at 11:00 AM (Panama) and 12:00 PM (Chile), FAO will launch a new study that analyzes seven experiences from Latin American and Caribbean countries that show how to align environmental objectives with efficient and socially inclusive agriculture.

The publication Towards a sustainable and resilient agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean will be presented at a seminar with the participation of the Chilean Minister of Agriculture, the FAO Regional Representative, the general manager of BanEcuador, and FAO’s chief scientist.

The publication details the results of climate-smart livestock projects that managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% in Ecuador; clean energies and energy efficiency projects in the agribusiness of Mexico; and the environmentally sound management of pesticides in Uruguay, which allowed a 70% reduction in the use of pesticides.

It also shows the experiences of community forest management in Guatemala and Colombia; sustainable management of trawl fisheries in the Caribbean and Brazil; clean production agreements in Chile, and agroclimatic technical tables in Colombia.
