FAO strengthens the digital capacities of young coffee growers in Colombia

06/04/2023

FAO, through its 1000 Digital Villages in Latin America and the Caribbean initiative, has supported the Jóvenes Renacer project, which seeks to strengthen the digital and business skills of 60 young people in the coffee production sector who live in the municipalities of Garzón, Gigante, Hobo and Agrada, in the department of Huila.

The 1000 Digital Villages team prepared the baseline report for the project. In addition, Microsoft and the Manuel Mejía Foundation have contributed their knowledge and experience, specifically in the design of a strategy to strengthen the business, productive and leadership capacities of young coffee growers through training using digital technologies.

In the case of FAO, the baseline report offers valuable evidence to measure the impact of the project after its execution and may also be useful for its replication in other areas. In addition, the document identifies and describes the beneficiaries of the project, as well as providing a survey template to collect the necessary data for its evaluation.

This report contains the results of 216 surveys given to a random group made up of young people who participated in the project, as well as people who were not involved in any of the activities carried out.

The completion and delivery of this baseline report marks a milestone for FAO and the private sector institutions in Colombia that are part of this project.
