Voices of EMPRES: 30 years in action
For 30 years, FAO's Emergency Prevention System (EMPRES) has tackled transboundary pests and diseases across animal health, plant protection, food safety, aquaculture, and forestry— safeguarding global food security through prevention, detection, and rapid response.
Established in 1994, EMPRES began its mission to eradicate rinderpest, and in the following years, its role expanded to build global capacities for monitoring and preventing animal diseases.
EMPRES did not stop there; its mission soon extended to cover threats to plants, aquaculture, forestry, and food safety. Along the way, EMPRES strengthened its global health initiatives, forming critical partnerships and addressing emerging threats like avian influenza and other zoonotic diseases.
As EMPRES celebrates 30 years of success, it continues to evolve, protecting global food security and addressing new threats.
In this video, we hear the story of EMPRES from those who have been part of its journey.
