Les médicaments antimicrobiens jouent un rôle critique dans le traitement des maladies, et ils sont essentiels pour protéger la santé humaine et animale. Toutefois, ils sont souvent utilisés à mauvais escient pour prévenir et traiter des maladies dans le secteur de l’agriculture, de l’élevage et de l’aquaculture, ce qui peut favoriser l’apparition et la diffusion de micro-organismes résistants aux antimicrobiens.
