The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, through its Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) and Chulalongkorn University, an FAO Reference for Antimicrobial Resistance, are co-organizing the First Research Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Use (AMU) in Food Animals in Asia and the Pacific (AMRU Asia-Pacific 2023).

The AMRU Asia-Pacific 2023 will focus on the following topics in food animal production in Asia and the Pacific:

  1. Session 1: AMR emergence and spread in food and agriculture in Asia and the Pacific: surveillance, molecular epidemiology and transmission dynamics.
  2. Session 2: AMU monitoring and alternatives to antimicrobials for AMU reduction in Food and Agriculture in Asia and the Pacific.
  3. Session 3: Bridging innovations and AMR mitigation in food and agriculture.

Hundreds of AMR and AMU researchers from all over the world are expected to register and listen to leading experts on AMR and AMU monitoring and surveillance, and participate in online discussions of ongoing research projects/studies. The main focus of AMRU Asia-Pacific 2023 will be on research projects/studies on AMR and AMU for food animal production in Asia and the Pacific.

Keynote and guest speakers will be discussing several topics around the session themes. An invite-only e-poster presentation will also be part of the scientific programme. There is an open invitation to researchers/scientists to participate in a Research Sharing Forum by presenting an e-poster of their recently concluded or ongoing AMR/AMU research projects/studies in Asia and the Pacific.
