FAO assistance in Bangladesh during 2022-2026 will be guided by the Country Programming Framework (CPF) which is centred on four pillars. These pillars are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026, the 8th Five Year Plan, the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Perspective Plan for 2041, and FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031.
Pillar 1. Productive, diversified and knowledge-based agri-economic growth
This is aligned with Strategic Priority 1 (SP1) of UNSDCF (Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development). Pillar 1 focusses on economic transformation – pursuing an accelerated shift towards more sustainable and inclusive economic growth, with increased and equitable opportunities for decent jobs and livelihoods. This pillar seeks transformation in the agri-food system for Better Production, Better Nutrition, and Better Life of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031.
Pillar 2. Healthy, safe, and nutritious food
This is aligned with SP2 of UNSDCF (Equitable Human Development and Well Being). This pillar covers building human capabilities leading to social development, addressing gaps in health, nutrition, food security, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), education and learning, child and youth protection, migration services, and social protection. This pillar seeks transformation in the agri-food system for Better Production, Better Nutrition, and Better Life of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031.
Pillar 3. Climate resilience and nature-based, low-carbon sustainable development
This is aligned with SP3 of UNSDCF (Sustainable, Healthy and Resilient Environment). This pillar focuses on Bangladesh’s accelerated actions on climate change resilience and adaptation, natural resources and water management, renewable energy, and a transition to environmental sustainability, along with reducing vulnerabilities to natural hazards. This pillar seeks transformation in the agri-food system for Better Production, Better Life, and Better Environment of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031.
Pillar 4. Gender equality and youth development
This is aligned with SP5 of UNSDCF (Gender Equality and Ending Gender-Based Violence: Empowering Women and Girls). This cross-cutting strategic priority addresses structural and inter-sectoral gender inequalities in order to foster an environment in which women, girls, and sexual minorities live free from discrimination. This pillar seeks transformation in the agri-food system for Better Life of FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031.
