This handbook, the first product published under the FAO Fisheries ‘other effective area-based conservation measures’ (OECMs) series, aims to promote practical guidance on issues related to Fisheries OECMs, describes key characteristics of Fisheries OECMs and outlines a basic process for identifying, evaluating and reporting OECMs in marine fisheries in order to encourage global recognition of the role that fisheries management plays in biodiversity conservation.

Mainstreaming biodiversity in forestry

This study is a collaboration between FAO and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), lead centre of the CGIAR research programme on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA). FAO and marine biological diversity beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ) process

Asia-Pacific roadmap for primary forest conservation

The purpose of the roadmap is to delineate and inform the process by which decision makers and actors can evaluate the status, diversity and trends of primary forests in the region. This report suggests a practical process in four steps, through which the recommendations can be articulated at different scales (from regional to local) and adapted to the specific context, priorities and needs of various forest types, countries and categories of actors.

Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture

The Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture was endorsed by the FAO Council in 2021. It contains more than 50 individual actions grouped into three strategic priority areas: characterization, assessment and monitoring; management (sustainable use and conservation); and institutional frameworks. It was developed in response to the country-driven report on The State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture.

It facilitates a deeper understanding of pastoral mobility through examples and case studies drawn from various parts of the world and identifies considerations to be borne in mind when legislating for mobility.
