Background Info:
The event, which will be open to the public, is part of the 2024 World Food Forum, a global youth-led initiative that aims to mobilize young people to transform agrifood systems sustainably.
Around 733 million people faced hunger in 2023, and around 2.33 billion people globally faced moderate or severe food insecurity. As access to adequate food remains elusive for billions, the global efforts for the transformation of our agrifood systems are more critical than ever.
Young people have a big role to play. This first-ever Students4Food event hopes to create a platform for young, bright students to present their ideas and research on the most pressing food and nutrition challenges.
A call for speakers was issued among selected Belgian universities. A jury will pick five students to speak at the event, who will also receive a certificate of participation from the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Forum, recognizing their contributions and commitment to advancing sustainable agrifood systems.
