Celebrating the power of Pulses

10/02/2023

World Pulses Day, 10 February, is an opportunity to celebrate the critical role these nutritious seeds play in addressing challenges of poverty, food security, nutrition, soil health and climate change.

Since the International Year of Pulses in 2016, FAO has been the lead agency in promoting the power of pulses.

This year the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels joined forces with FAO former Goodwill Ambassador for the International Year of Pulses, food writer and cook Jenny Chandler to show how versatile and incredibly easy to cook pulses are. In a video Jenny shared with us, she presents a number of ideas on how to enjoy these healthy and nutritious food items.

Growing pulses also promotes sustainable agriculture, as pulse crops help decrease greenhouse gases, increase soil health and improve land use with less water than other crops.
