Planting trees for a better future: UN agencies and European Commission plant trees in Tervuren Arboretum

09/12/2022

FAO Brussels took part in an initiative to plant over 600 trees in the Arboretum of Tervuren, together with UN sister agencies, to mark Human Rights Day and the right to a healthy environment, as recognized by the UN General Assembly last July.

The event began with Representatives of the UN in Brussels and the European Commission planting a memorial tree for Mauro Petriccione, the Director-General of DG CLIMA who passed away last August. Petriccione was leading the Directorate General on Climate Action since 2018.

The UN Brussels team planted the trees under the guidance and expertise of the foresters of the Arboretum. The tree-planting initiative also emphasized the importance of forest restoration and protection of biodiversity.
