II Regional Meeting for the Promotion and Sustainable Development of the Camelid Sector in Latin America

In the context of the International Year of Camelids 2024, the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) convened the First Regional Meeting of South American Camelids, held in La Paz, Bolivia, in September 2024, where common points of agreement were established between Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador to promote the development of the camelid sector in the region.

The government of Chile, with the support of FAO, convenes the "II Regional Meeting for the Promotion and Sustainable Development of the Camelid Sector in Latin America" to foster a constructive dialogue among the Andean countries, with the aim of strengthening the strategies for the development and management of the camelids sector, improve the management of economic resources from the sector and achieve a more resilient and inclusive value chain, enhancing the Andean food systems and the lives of its inhabitants.

Participants will include high-level public authorities from the five countries, academia, representatives of producers, and fibre processors, the private sector and international organizations and funds, among others.

The camelid sector is one of the main sources of income for Andean communities and has played a fundamental role in their development, highlighting the work of Indigenous Peoples and women in the value chains.
