Chairperson of the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) Welcomes Extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative

The Chairperson of the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS), Ambassador Gabriel Ferrero y de Loma-Osorio, on behalf of the CFS family, welcomes the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative to continue facilitating safe navigation and export of grains, fertilizers and other food commodities from Ukraine.

The CFS Chairperson also welcomes the commitment by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to removing the remaining obstacles to the export of food and fertilizers from the Russian Federation

He further commends the UN Secretary-General and Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for their leadership in facilitating the deal which has, since its agreement  in July 2022, seen movement of over 11 million tons of food commodities alleviating the suffering of millions of people around the world.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative continues to be a lifeline for millions of people around the world, especially the poor and most vulnerable. Its extension brings hope and confidence on the power of multilateralism and cooperation to solve the most pressing challenges of our time.
