Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

Monitoring

The Commission monitors the status of genetic resources and activities taken by countries to implement the Commission’s instruments and the impact they have at country level.

Indicators have been developed to monitor the actions taken by countries to implement the Global Plans of Action. Furthermore, a set of targets and indicators has been developed to improve and measure the state of conservation, use and development of the genetic resources. They are also used for national reporting on indicators for Target 2.5 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Commission plays a leading role in the development and promotion of international targets and indicators for specific sectors of genetic resources for food and agriculture to achieve coherence and improve cooperation among relevant international fora and organizations and reduce the reporting burden of countries. The Commission and FAO cooperate closely with the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership.
