The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has officially launched new software that is expected to help significantly in the fight against climate change. Tropical deforestation and forest degradation are among the largest sources of carbon dioxide emissions caused by humans globally and thus major contributors to climate change, which is why reducing these emissions has become a key goal of the international community. The software will enable countries to conduct comprehensive forest inventories so that they understand the value of their forest resources and how best to manage them in order to combat climate change.

Henning Steinfeld, Chief of Livestock Information, Sector Analysis and Policy Branch, explains the main focus of the new report 'Tackling climate change through livestock: A global assessment of emissions and mitigation opportunities'.

She highlights the needs for investing in climate-smart agriculture and the five building blocks of the CSA project.
