Rural Radio: Voices for Change

Hybrid Event, 15/10/2024 - 17/10/2024

Rural radio: An asset in family farming

Rural radio provides vital communication services in rural areas, offering accessible information to family farmers and communities. Radio programmes are crafted to meet specific information needs, involving communities in content creation. Within the framework of the UN Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF), the Rural Radio Initiative is implemented in Asia, Africa and Latin America involving farmers’ organizations, community media and development institutions. A series of people-centred radio programmes provide information on the progress of the UNDFF national action plans and give voice to family farmers. These programmes are broadcast regularly by networks of rural radios, reaching millions of farmers in their local languages across different regions.

Rural Radio: Voices for Change

The Global Family Farming Forum (15-18 October 2024) gathers global food champions to mark the Mid-Term of the UNDFF. A key element of this event is a fully operational radio station streaming live from the FAO headquarters reaching out to rural audiences. Experienced rural radio broadcasters from various regions will produce a special radio series, Rural Radio: Voices for Change, to amplify discussions and perspectives on family farming. Interactive roundtable discussions, interviews and talk-shows in English, French and Spanish are made available through live streaming and on-demand.
