The partnership will strengthen impact of public-private collaboration in support of all three pillars of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental – with an important emphasis on both mitigating climate change and adapting and strengthening the resilience of agrifood systems and natural resources against the impacts of climate change. The partners will promote responsible investment and sustainable strategies for agrifood system transformation in light of national goals, needs and priorities, and facilitate private sector engagement through strategic partnerships in national programmes supported by the Hand-in-Hand (HIH) Initiative.

The partnership will promote sustainable food and agriculture and address related topics such as assessment of soil fertility and the sustainable use of fertilizers. Together, FAO and IFA will encourage the continuous improvement of fertilizer statistics to inform agriculture policy and support evidence-based decision making; support increased agricultural productivity through the implementation of the International Code of Conduct for Sustainable Use and Management of Fertilizers; and work to minimize the impact of fertilizers on the environment through integrated approaches to plant nutrition, including efficiency in use of fertilizers and promotion of bio fertilizers and biostimulants.

Mars Inc. has been a longstanding private sector partner of FAO since 2015 in the area of improving food safety and quality in agriculture production. Under this Memorandum of Understanding, FAO and Mars will jointly work to exchange knowledge and information to support science-based decision-making on food safety.

FAO and Paradise Foods Ltd. aim to promote more inclusive and sustainable cocoa production value chains while creating income generation opportunities for smallholder farmers in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The partnership will support smallholder farmers by improving the quality of their products, facilitating better market access and developing product certification schemes.

FAO and Rabobank aim at supporting small-scale producers (smallholders) through better access to financial services. The partnership promotes public-private partnerships along the food chain as a means to reduce food loss and waste, improveproduction by providing farmers with the best raw materials and inputs, and strengthen farmers' organizations and cooperatives by offering them better access to technology and other services. Rabobank and FAO’s joint work focuses on formulating and implementing new initiatives, projects and joint activities at the country level, and supports capacity development through joint initiatives and the organization and participation in joint events.
