Bilateral meeting with His Excellency Thammanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand
Bangkok – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and HE. Mr Thammanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, met during the Director-General’s visit to Bangkok.
The Director-General thanked the Thai Government for its long-standing commitment and strong support to FAO. Particularly, the Director-General expressed his appreciation to Thailand for hosting the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific over the past 70 years.
The Director-General emphasized the importance of working jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives as the window ministry to FAO, in supporting farmers, promoting rural development, boosting well-being, and protecting the environment.
The Minister highlighted the key support provided by FAO to Thailand and conveyed his appreciation for the fruitful and longstanding relations. The pair discussed how to further strengthen technical and financial support and enabling policies, as well as the promotion of marketing and trade, implementation of science and innovation, partnerships, and climate change strategies for the Four Betters: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life, leaving no one behind.
The pair further discussed strengthening collaboration through the FAO Green Cities Initiative, on addressing the impacts of the climate crisis, agro-tourism, and soil management.
