Bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of Lao PDR - H.E. Thongphat Vongmany

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Thongphat Vongmany, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Forestry of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation taking place at FAO Headquarters from 25 to 27 September.
The Director-General thanked Lao PDR for supporting the first Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation and praised the country’s transition from being land-locked to land-linked. The Director-General expressed the willingness to provide technical assistance and support to Lao PDR on agrifood systems transformation, especially in livestock, aquaculture, function/medicine plants sectors.
The Vice Minister congratulated the Director-General on his successful re-election and conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity provided by the Global Conference for sharing opinions and visions with other Members.
The pair discussed how to better emerge through the Green Growth Economic Corridor, driven by the new railway connecting the country with China and Thailand, building an international wholesale market in Lao PDR and promote value chain development to increase farmer’s income in the country.
