Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland - H.E. Charlie McConalogue
Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met in Rome with H.E. Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland, on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation.
The Director-General expressed his appreciation to the Minister for Ireland’s longstanding support to FAO. The Minister on his behalf congratulated the Director-General with his re-election.
The Director-General recalled their bilateral meeting last year in Rome during the World Food Forum (WFF), as well as his visit to Ireland earlier in 2022, where he had also met with Minister McConalogue, and with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins.
The pair discussed their close collaboration in sustainable livestock transformation, and how the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation addressed the pressing challenge of how to produce more with less environmental impact, less social impact and more economic return with greater equity.
The Director-General commended Ireland for their leading role in agrifood systems transformation, as well as for sharing their vast experience over many years with other FAO Members, including through their renewed agrifood strategy, Food Vision 2030.
