Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia - H.E. Jelena Tanaskovic
Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. JelenaTanaskovic, met to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration.
The Minister expressed her appreciation for the Director-General’s leadership and noted that he was the first FAO Director-General to pay an official visit to Serbia.
The Director-General stated that the trip made him aware of the great biodiversity of Serbian agricultural products, and he congratulated the Minister on successful efforts in scaling up digitalization of agriculture.
The Minister recalled the successful FAO project aimed to mitigate negative effects of flooding on agriculture in 2014. She noted that Serbia has been affected by heavy floods this year and would very much welcome FAO’s technical support to help flooded areas.
The Director-General confirmed FAO’s readiness to provide the assistance need and noted that floods mitigation in particular, and water management in general, are key areas of focus. In this regard, he referred to the 43rd Session of the FAO’s Conference theme on water, and how it follows from the UN Water Conference held in March 2023.
