Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Animal Resources of the Republic of Rwanda - His Excellency Ildephonse Musafiri

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and His Excellency Dr Ildephonse Musafiri, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources of the Republic of Rwanda, met today on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.

The Minister congratulated the Director-General on the excellent result of his re-election for a second term as FAO Director-General. The two proceeded to discuss the innovative and technological advances made by the country, highlighting digital technologies. The Minister shared with the Director-General the vision for the new Strategic Plan for Agricultural Transformation (PSTA-5), which positioned the agrifood sector as a key driver. He underlined the continued need for investments in the sector to facilitate mechanization and value addition.

The Director-General thanked the Minister and commended him on achievements, and emphasized the importance of farmer field schools, not only for the training of smallholder farmers, but also how it can lead to the advancement of vocational schools, in line with Rwanda’s Vision 2050.
