Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama – H.E. Janaina Tewaney

Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama, H.E. Janaina Tewaney, at FAO headquarters in Rome, during which they discussed key areas of collaboration.

The Minister conveyed the satisfaction of the Panamanian government with FAO projects being implemented in Panama for the benefit of women and Indigenous Peoples. She also thanked FAO for the ongoing support to mobilize international funds aimed at addressing the impacts of the climate crisis and supporting farmers. In addition, the Minister highlighted Panama’s potential to support global food security due to its geographic location and logistical development.

The Director General agreed that Panama can provide key support to global food security due to its comparative advantages in terms of logistics, and encouraged the government to develop a master plan on how to harness Panama's potential in this regard.
