Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Rural Development and Family Farming of Brazil, H.E. Paulo Teixeira
Rome – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and His Excellency Paulo Teixeira, Minister for Rural Development and Family Farming of the Federative Republic of Brazil, met today on the sidelines of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.
From the outset, they highlighted the close collaboration between FAO and Brazil. The Minister congratulated the Director-General on his successful first term as head of FAO and on his re-election for a second term with strong global support.
Minister Teixeira noted the importance of promoting sustainable activities in the Amazon region and requested FAO’s support in the design and implementation of socio-biodiversity projects.
The Director-General acknowledged the need to preserve the Amazon forest and to use its resources in a sustainable way, taking into consideration the social protection of local communities.
They also discussed ways for Brazil to share its technical knowledge and expertise with other developing countries, particularly in Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, including through South-South and Triangular Cooperation programmes.
