Bilateral meeting with the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan - His Excellency Hideo Tsunoda

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Hideo Tsunoda, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, on the margins of the 43rd Session of the FAO Conference.

The Vice Minister congratulated the Director-General on his appointment to a second term. He appraised the Director-General for his participation in the G7 Agricultural Ministers’ Meeting held in Miyazaki in April 2023, and commended the close cooperation between Japan and FAO on addressing global challenges under the umbrella of the G7, G20 and other relevant multilateral platforms.

The Vice Minister highly appreciated the establishment of the Chief Economist and Chief Scientist in FAO, and expressed the willingness to enhance the cooperation with FAO on transforming agrifood systems in terms of innovation, private sector engagement, as well as utility of livestock manure.

The Director-General thanked the Japanese Government for its long-standing commitment and strong support to FAO, in particular with regard to their generous support for FAO;s work in emergency and resilience. He encouraged Japan to be more active in sharing its experiences with countries in Africa, Latin American and Small Island Developing States, where they could make important contributions to knowledge sharing.
