Bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal - The Right Honourable Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with The Right Honourable Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister of Nepal, on the sidelines of the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment taking place at FAO Headquarters from 24 to 26 July.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Director-General for his successful re-election, and hoped to increased more support from the UN wide system, and looked forward to strengthened collaboration with FAO.

The Director-General apprised Nepal as Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Group during the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), and Nepal’s vast knowledge and excellent track record of leading LDC issues in the global arena. He reaffirmed FAO’s willingness to support Nepal to graduate from the LDCs group.

The pair further committed to strengthen cooperation on, among others, in-situ conservation, biodiversity, rice production, breeding, and agro-based industry, as well as capacity building.
