Bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic Djibouti - with H.E. Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed

Rome - Director-General QU Dongyu and His Excellency Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, Prime Minister of the Republic Djibouti, met on the margins of the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment at FAO Headquarters.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by His Excellency Mohamed Ahmed Awaleh, Minister for Agriculture, Water, Fisheries, Livestock and Fisheries and National Convener for the UN Food Systems Summit. The Prime Minister began by congratulating the Director-General for his re-election, for a second term, and thanked him for the support provided during his first term highlighting the technical support in strengthening institutional capacities and agrifood systems resilience, with an emphasis on the need for additional support for desalinization and the date palm sector as priorities. The Minister also provided an overview of the negative impacts of climate crisis and aridity on the agricultural sector in the country.
The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister and reiterated his commitment to support Djibouti. He highlighted the huge potential of the country and explained that agrifood system transformation can be facilitated through the development of agro-industrial parks. He reiterated FAO’s continued technical support for their development. The two also agreed on key strategic priorities to support agrifood systems transformation through increased production and value addition.
