Bilateral meeting with the Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China – H.E. Zhang Xingwang

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Zhang Xingwang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, on the sidelines of the 172nd Session of the FAO Council being held this week.

The Director-General expressed the appreciation to China for its continuous support and congratulated the country for its extraordinary work on poverty alleviation, and further encouraged the Chinese government to share its successful experience in this regard, as well as on agrifood systems transformation.

The Vice Minister thanked the Director-General for the meeting and appraised him for the extraordinary achievements, noting in particular that under Qu’s leadership FAO is now addressing global challenges as a more dynamic, more professional and future-oriented Organization. The valuable services that FAO offers resulted in a record-breaking increase of resources mobilization, and China is willing to share and learn through platforms that FAO has established. He specifically appraised the Director-General’s enthusiasm, wisdom, boldness and perseverance in building a better FAO. The Vice Minister conveyed the greetings of H.E. Tang Renjian, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and reiterated that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the work of FAO.

The Director-General appreciated the Vice Minister’s words, and urged China to increase their voluntary contributions to FAO, so as to work even better together for a better world.
