Read-out of the Director-General’s meetings with the Minister of Municipality of Qatar and the Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development
Doha - During his visit to Doha, Qatar, to participate in the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5), the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with HE Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Subaei, Minister of Municipality of Qatar.
The Director-General congratulated the Government of Qatar for the successful organization of the Conference. The Minister expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between FAO and Qatar.
The Director-General and the Minister discussed potential cooperation and partnership opportunities with between FAO and Qatar in food security and renewable energy. The Minister provided an overview of the Government priorities and initiatives to support food security.
The Director-General also had a meeting with H.E. Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
They emphasized the importance of supporting countries in building resilience and facing the ongoing challenges to food security in cooperation with international financing institutions.
They agreed to consolidate bilateral cooperation further, through providing financial and technical support to Least Developed Countries through a framework agreement.
