Read-out of the FAO Director-General's meeting with Ambassador Redwan Hussien, Minister National Security Advisor for the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met with Ambassador Redwan Hussien, Minister National Security Advisor for the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the support from and close collaboration with FAO. The Minister also underlined the negative impacts of the Eastern Africa droughts on the food security of the country and the region. He asked for technical assistance from FAO to improve water management in the agricultural sector.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister and emphasized the need to transform the agrifood systems noting the huge potential in the country. The Director-General also shared with the Minister his views on agrifood system transformation through technical assistance to local farmers, holistic projects and on the need to promote key agricultural products that can be further valorized as a result of improved processing.

The Director-General highlighted the importance of green economy. The two agreed on the significance of a structured urbanization plan that supports sustainable cities of the future. In this regard the Director-General shared with the Minister the FAO Green Cities Action Programme  and how it could be of support for Ethiopia’s urbanization process.

The two agreed to a continued strong collaborative cooperation.
