Read-out the FAO Director-General’s meeting with Salem Abdullah Issa Al-Soqtari, Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries of the Republic of Yemen
Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met Salem Abdullah Issa Al-Soqtar, Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries of the Republic of Yemen.
Minister Al-Soqtari expressed his appreciation to FAO for the organization of the Hand in Hand Investment Forum which presents an opportunity to the Government to present impact investment opportunities, with a focus on agrifood systems transformation.
The Director-General reiterated FAO's continued commitment to supporting the people of Yemen to resume and increase nutritious food production and generate income in the context of the Hand in Hand initiative and sustainable agrifood systems Transformation. Yemen is a Hand-in-Hand (HiH) priority country, and FAO is supporting the Government in developing an integrated policy and investment framework for SDG1 and SDG2.
The Minister appreciated FAO’s support, reconfirming the Government's commitment to working with FAO and partners to provide support to the agrifood system.
The Director-General andthe Minister agreed on the importance of working through long-term approaches alongside the response to the immediate needs of the Yemeni population.
