Readout of the Director-General’s bilateral meeting with the Chief Livestock Officer, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, ZHANG Tianzuo

Rome - The FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today had a meeting today with ZHANG Tianzuo, Chief Livestock Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, on the sidelines of the 171st Session of the FAO Council being held this week.

The Director-General expressed the appreciation to China for its continuous support and further encouraged the Chinese government to increase their voluntary contributions to FAO, so as to do even better together.

ZHANG Tianzuo thanked the Director-General for the meeting and appraised him for the extraordinary achievements over the past 40 months, noting in particular that the Hand-in-Hand, 1000 Digital Villages, and many other initiatives launched by the Director-General since he took office are important models for sustainable development, and have been successful in bringing together many developing countries to work hand in hand.

The two also discussed strengthening cooperation on South-South and Triangular cooperation, and prevention and control of Avian Influenza following the recent outbreak in Latin America.
