Readout of the Director-General’s bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova, Vladimir Bolea

Rome - Today the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met at FAO headquarters in Rome with H.E. Vladimir Bolea, Minister for Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova.
The Director-General congratulated Minister Bolea on his recent appointment and underlined FAO’s commitment to continuing its support to the Government in building resilient agrifood systems.
The Minister said that three quarters of Moldova’s land is fertile and that the country is exporting the vast majority of its cereal production, helping to provide food for all. The Minister further expressed the government’s interest in working closely with FAO on digital agriculture and to modernize its agrifood systems.
The Director-General indicated that Moldova has high quality soils with high levels of organic matter, and advanced technologies and high quality seeds, and that digitalization can help to increase yields reaffirming FAO’s commitment to provide technical support.
The Minister thanked FAO for the successful implementation of the Country Programming Framework (CPF) for 2016-2022 that consisted of a project portfolio of 10 projects with total value of USD 4.8 million.
The Director-General indicated that FAO is committed to continuing its cooperation to help Moldova speed up agrifood systems transformation.
