Readout of the Director-General’s meeting with the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez
Buenos Aires - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, a day after the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), hosted by Argentina.
The two parties reviewed the very successful Summit and the excellent bilateral relations between FAO and Argentina.
The President briefed the Director-General on a wheat gene developed by Argentina, which Argentina is ready to share with other countries to enhance global food security and nutrition.
The President also appreciated the renewal of the designation of Argentina’s National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biosafety (CONABIA) as a FAO Reference Centre for Biosafety.
The Director-General also met with the Minister for Economy of Argentina, Sergio Massa. They discussed the potential of Argentina to increase food production in several agricultural sectors in a sustainable way.
