Readout of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with Princess Basma bint Ali of Jordan, FAO Goodwill Ambassador for the Near East and North Africa and Head of the National Convention on Biological Diversity Committee of Jordan
Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today met Princess Basma bint Ali of Jordan, FAO Goodwill Ambassador for the Near East and North Africa and Head of the National Convention on Biological Diversity Committee of Jordan, on the sidelines of the 26th Session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO) that is taking place from 3 to 7 October 2022.
The Director General congratulated the Princess on her leadership and continued commitment to supporting the priorities of FAO in the Near East and North Africa Region and for raising awareness of the importance of linking forestry to biodiversity conservation efforts.
Princess Basma expressed her appreciation for the work of FAO in the Near East and North Africa Region, referring in particular to the challenges facing the region due to climate change impacts and water scarcity.
The Director-General and the Princess agreed to continue their dialogue in support of improving food security, and ecosystems restoration through the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all, leaving no one behind.
