Bilateral Meeting with H.E Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt

Cairo - The FAO Director General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt on 2 March 2024 during the Director-General’s official visit to the country.
During the meeting, the Director General conveyed his appreciation for the ongoing increased cooperation between FAO and Egypt, including in the water sector.
H.E the Minister provided an overview of the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance water management and food security. He referred to the efforts to improve the water management process, maximize the yield from the water unit and increase crop productivity in light of the important interdependence between water and food.
The Director-General highlighted that FAO would continue to support the Egyptian efforts to transform its agrifood systems, emphasizing the importance of using technology and innovation in the management of water resources.
The two sides agreed that FAO will work with Egypt to export opportunities to support national efforts to enhance the utilization of the water resources building on the “Action on Water Adaptation or Resilience” (AWARe) initiative that champions inclusive collaboration to address water related challenges and solutions across climate change adaptation.
