Rome - The Director-General welcomed His Excellency the President to FAO headquarters and reiterated FAO's commitment to continue to support Guinea-Bissau, especially through programmes such as South-South Cooperation. He also highlighted the need to further strengthen aquaculture projects and crop production with the aim of improving agrifood systems transformation, as well as the importance of strengthening and developing smallholder farmers. The Director-General congratulated the President for his dynamic approach to multilateralism and appreciated the longstanding collaboration between FAO and Guinea-Bissau.

The President thanked the Director General for the opportunity to meet, conveyed appreciation for the fruitful collaboration between Guinea-Bissau and FAO and reaffirmed the Government’s intention to scale up and strengthen national projects in the fisheries sector. The President further informed that Guinea-Bissau was working with Cabo Verde to increase food production in that country and indicated that the cooperation aimed to mitigate crop production challenges in Cabo Verde emanating from inadequate land availability.

In this regard, the Director-General indicated that FAO would be willing to facilitate collaboration between the two countries aimed at scaling up crop production in the two countries.

The pair agreed to continue to strengthen their joint collaboration.
