Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Rwamirama Bright Kanyontore, Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries of Uganda

Rome - The Director-General welcomed the Minister and appreciated the long-standingcollaboration between FAO and Uganda. He further appreciated and congratulated Uganda for attaining food security, notwithstanding the prevailing challenges. He reiterated FAO's commitment to continue to provide technical support to the country and to strengthen cooperation.
The Minister appreciated FAO's work and thanked the Director-General for the support,indicating that FAO’s technical assistance and expertise had primarily contributed to the country's achievement of food security. He further expressed gratitude to the Director-General and FAO in particular for the support with CODEX, South-South Cooperation and all animal health related assistance. He informed that coffee and milk production had increased, but that the country still faced challenges with market access. The Minister further informed that avocado, cocoa and tea production had also increased, and that with the substantive increase in livestock production, Uganda was also considering increasing its beef export and discussions were under way with possible importers.
Both agreed to continue to work together to achieve agrifood systems transformation and to strengthen collaboration across the agrifood sector.
