Bilateral meeting with H.E. Keda Ballah, Minister for Agricultural Production and Industrialization of the Republic of Chad

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu welcomed H.E. Keda Ballah, Minister for Agricultural Production and Industrialization of the Republic of Chad to FAO headquarters and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet.

The Minister thanked the Director-General for the meeting and for the strong cooperation between Chad and FAO over many years, both at the country level as well as with headquarters. The Minister outlined Chad’s current priorities, emphasizing the country’s ambition to modernize its agricultural sector, develop value chains, and promote agro-processing.

In this context, he said Chad looked forward to FAO’s ongoing support through its technical expertise, as well as through a possible secondment of an expert to support the reform of the national agricultural bank. The Minister also highlighted Chad’s significant livestock potential and expressed the country’s interest in establishing an organic fertilizer production plant.

In his response, the Director-General reaffirmed the excellent relations with Chad and FAO’s commitment to continue supporting Chad, primarily through the Ministry of Agriculture as its primary counterpart. The Director-General identified key areas for Chad, including investment, research, animal vaccines, capacity building, and higher agricultural education, and further highlighted key initiatives such as the Farmer Field School programme and the support provided through the FAO Office of Innovation, aimed at strengthening the country’s agrifood system.
