Bilateral meeting with H.E. Li Guoying, Minister for Water Resources of China

Rome - On the margins of the World Food Forum (WFF) 2024 in Rome at FAO Headquarters, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Li Guoying, Minister for Water Resources of China. Director-General welcomed the Minister and provided an introduction to FAO’s history and mission. He commended China's water resource management policy and practices, recognizing their significance as a model for global water management efforts.
Minister Li Guoying congratulated Director-General QU on his re-election, acknowledging the global recognition of his achievements. The Minister highlighted QU's remarkable contributions, particularly his advocacy for technological innovation and his continuous efforts toward transforming agrifood systems. He emphasized that these efforts have directly benefited farmers worldwide, praising the Director-General as a true practitioner of impactful leadership.
Minister Li also commended FAO’s commitment to sustainable agrifood systems, aligned with the goal of “better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.” He underscored the importance of environmental sustainability, stressing that a healthy environment is essential for food production, and emphasized the need for a people-centered approach in agricultural development.
