Bilateral meeting with H.E. Liao Min, Vice Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China

Rome - FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today at FAO headquarters with H.E. Liao Min, Vice Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, during which the pair discussed the further strengthening of cooperation between China and FAO.
The Director-General warmly welcomed Vice Minister Liao and expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding and consistent support. He highlighted FAO’s critical role and historical contributions to global food security, and further provided an overview of FAO’s current financial situation emphasizing the importance of continued Chinese support, in particular robust financial support, to ensure the Organization’s financial sustainability and continued operational success.
Vice Minister Liao congratulated the Director-General on his successful re-election, noting that his strong mandate reflected the confidence and support of member countries. He commended the Director-General’s leadership and the achievements under his tenure. Vice Minister Liao also expressed appreciation for the comprehensive briefing and reaffirmed China’s commitment to continue supporting FAO’s work. He assured the Director-General that China would continue to fulfill its financial obligations to the FAO.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the partnership between China and the FAO. The Director-General expressed his sincere thanks for China’s continued support, while Vice Minister Liao reiterated China’s appreciation for FAO’s efforts and leadership in promoting global food security.
