Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan

Baku, Azerbaijan - FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu, met with H.E Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, on the margins of COP29.

The Minister welcomed the Director-General to Baku and thanked him for the support extended to Azerbaijan through the years, in particular for the support in the preparatory work leading to COP29. He recognized the commitment of FAO in climate change adaptation and mitigation issues, and expressed the President’s appreciation for the support of FAO to the people and government of Azerbaijan.

The Minister further recognized the support of FAO through various projects in the agriculture strategy of the country that seeks to support small and middle-income farmers. He also stated that the government is also working on the land aggregation project with the support of FAO. The Minister also recognized the Director-General’s commitment to food security and agrifood systems transformation.

The Director-General thanked the Minister and expressed his support and solidarity to Azerbaijan for a green world, healthy food, social inclusion and agrifood systems transformation. He wished the government of Azerbaijan successful deliberations and conclusions arising from COP29. He reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to support Azerbaijan in it strive to achieve food security.
