Bilateral meeting with H.E. Paulo Teixeira, Minister for Agrarian Development and Family Farming of Brazil

Chapada dos Guimarães - FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with His Excellency Paulo Teixeira, Minister for Agrarian Development and Family Farming of Brazil, in Chapada dos Guimarães at the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the G20 Agriculture Working Group, hosted by Brazil, for a dialogue on technical cooperation for family farmers.
The Director-General expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration between FAO and the Government of Brazil, across relevant Ministries, and stressed the importance of continuing working together to provide technical assistance in Brazil, and beyond in the region, to support Members with their agrarian development, with special focus on family farmers.
The Minister highlighted the importance of the cooperation with FAO in strengthening the technical services and products provided to family farmers, including capacity building, technology and productive inputs. He expressed Brazil's interest in continuing to expand cooperation with FAO in support of family farmers in Africa and other regions of the world.
Both sides agreed on the importance of the UN Decade of Family Farming to call the attention of the governments to improve the livelihoods of the local populations dedicated to agriculture. In this regard, they agreed to increase the projects under the South-South Cooperation programme in various countries around the world, using FAO as a platform to support family farmers with technology and innovation, and the development of specialized public policies.
