Bilateral meeting with H.E. Rachmat Pambudy, Minister for National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of BAPPENAS, Indonesia

Rome – The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met with His Excellency Rachmat Pambudy, Minister for National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of BAPPENAS, on the sidelines of the “Seeds to Foods” exhibition at FAO Headquarters in the context of the 2025 World Food Forum and FAO's 80th Anniversary celebrations.
The Director-General welcomed the Minister and acknowledged Indonesia’s longstanding partnership with FAO spanning over six decades. He emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s role as one of the world’s most populous countries, noting that developments in its agrifood systems had significant implications for the region and beyond. He highlighted the importance of strengthening local production systems to meet the challenges of urbanization and modernization, with a focus on rice, vegetables, and poultry.
The Minister thanked the Director-General for the invitation and expressed appreciation for FAO’s long-standing support to Indonesia’s agricultural development. He recalled the country’s historical journey toward food self-sufficiency, noting that Indonesia overcame major challenges in rice production with FAO’s technical assistance. The Minister reaffirmed Indonesia’s strong commitment to continue working closely with FAO to enhance food security and agricultural development in the face of an increasing population and limited natural resources.
