Bilateral meeting with H.E. Saeb Khraisat, Minister for Agriculture of Jordan

Rome – The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today at FAO headquarters with H.E. Saeb Khraisat, Minister for Agriculture of Jordan on the sidelines of the World Food Forum 2025 and FAO’s 80th Anniversary.

The Director General congratulated the Minister on his appointment and thanked him for Jordan's active role in the World Food Forum. The Director-General referred to his official visit to Jordan, reiterating his appreciation for the leadership of King Abdullah II in transforming agrifood systems in Jordan, as well as his role in supporting other countries in the region. The Director-General stated that the presentation of the FAO Agricola Medal to His Majesty was a recognition of his commitment in advancing food security and sustainable agriculture. 

The Minister expressed his appreciation to the Director-General for the growing cooperation between Jordan and FAO, in particular for FAO’s continued technical support for the transformation of the country’s agrifood systems. The Minister further informed that this transformation was a priority for the government, and also referred to the ongoing cooperation for agriculture modernization and capacity development in Jordan, as well as to several national green agriculture projects supported by FAO.

The Minister emphasized the importance of the Regional Observatory for Food Security for the Mashreq region, hosted in Jordan, and which provided key data for decision makers in the region. The Director General and the Minister agreed to continue cooperation to support the role of Jordan as a center for agricultural innovation, emergency preparedness, and agrifood systems transformation in the region.
