Bilateral meeting with H.E. Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al-Habsi, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman

Rome - The Director General met today in Rome with H.E. Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al-Habsi, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference.

The FAO Director-General welcomed the Minister and conveyed his appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s strategic partnership and regional leadership, and emphasized that FAO remained committed to strengthening collaboration in support of Oman’s agrifood system transformation in line with the country’s Vision 2040, particularly in the areas of food security, data, sustainable agriculture, climate resilience and innovation.

The Minister appreciated FAO’s continued support and welcomed the finalization of the Host Country Agreement. The Minister also expressed appreciation for FAO's support to Oman’s Vision 2040 and reaffirmed the Government’s desire to expand the partnership with FAO by strengthening programming and technical support.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation focusing on South-South Cooperation, including through value chains, and also agreed to focus on capitalizing on Oman's high potential in the fisheries sector, especially aquaculture, for achieving food security.

The Director-General and the Minister proceeded to sign the Host Country Agreement, which marks a significant step forward in deepening strategic collaboration.
