Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of the Republic of Turkmenistan

Ashgabat – FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of the Republic of Turkmenistan during his two days visit to Turkmenistan, to discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation between FAO and Turkmenistan.
The President highlighted the historic significance of the visit, noting that it marked an important milestone in cooperation between FAO and the Government of Turkmenistan.
The Director-General welcomed Turkmenistan’s active regional role, including its engagement in issues relevant to landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), the climate crisis, and food security. Both sides discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration on digital agriculture, land governance, climate-resilient farming, and the One Health approach across food, veterinary, and plant sectors.
The Director-General underscored FAO’s commitment to supporting climate finance for climate action and sustainable natural resource management. The discussions also focused on enhancing the partnership in support of agrifood systems transformation, including value-chain modernization, food safety, nutrition, productivity, and market access.
The Director-General commended the Government’s strong commitment to establishing an FAO Country Representation, noting that finalization of the Host Country Agreement would significantly strengthen FAO’s operational capacity in Turkmenistan and further expand cooperation at national and regional levels.
