Bilateral meeting with H.E. Suzuki Norikazu, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan

Tokyo – The Director-General, QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Suzuki Norikazu, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, during his visit to Japan.
The Minister warmly welcomed the Director-General and conveyed his gratitude for the ongoing collaboration with FAO. The Director-General expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continued support to FAO and commended the Minister’s leadership in the field of food and agriculture.
The Director-General introduced the Global Partnership Programme for Transboundary Animal Diseases (GPP-TAD), outlining its background, including the substantial contributions previously provided by traditional donors, stressing the importance of this new funding model to address transboundary animal disease and urging FAO Members to participate in the initiative.
The Minister acknowledged the importance of addressing transboundary animal diseases and looked forward to further exchanges on this important matter.
The pair agreed to continue working together and further strengthening collaboration between FAO and Japan.
