Bilateral meeting with H.E. Telce González Morera, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Cuba

Rome – FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with His Excellency Telce González Morera, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of Cuba, on the margins of the World Food Forum 2025 taking place at the Organization’s headquarters in Rome.
The Director-General welcomed the Deputy Minister, expressing his gratitude for the country's participation in the World Food Forum.
The Deputy Minister conveyed the President of Cuba’s salutation to the Director-General on the occasion of FAO’s 80th anniversary. He referred to the activities of the Cuban delegation at FAO headquarters during the week, which included participation in high-level events and bilateral meetings with FAO technical teams. He praised the opportunity to discuss ongoing and prospective projects that would significantly impact rural development. Looking forward, the Deputy Minister mentioned that Cuba envisaged greater involvement in projects with environmental components, as well as promoting products such as coffee and honey through increased investment in capacity building, science, and innovation.
The Director-General thanked the Deputy Minister, appreciating the video message from Cuba’s President for the World Food Forum Grand Opening. He encouraged the Deputy Minister to continue utilizing innovation as a tool for agricultural transformation and to leverage FAO’s technical resources and cooperation, whilst concurrently increasing Cuba's involvement in the Organization’s initiatives.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to building more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems that leave no one behind.
