Bilateral meeting with His Majesty King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho

Rome - FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu met with His Majesty King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho, today at FAO headquarters on the margins of the 2024 World Food Forum (WFF), to discuss ongoing collaboration, future initiatives and to strengthen collaboration between FAO and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The Director-General expressed gratitude to the King for his participation in the WFF and World Food Day 2024, as well as for his role as FAO Special Godwill Ambassador for Nutrition. He commended His Majesty for his exemplary leadership in the execution of his mandate as a Special Goodwill Ambassador highlighting the symbolic importance of his role for FAO and Africa. The Director-General further recognized and appreciated the commitment and passion demonstrated by the King in his work.

His Majesty expressed his appreciation to the Director-General for the opportunity to be part of the 2024 World Food Forum and for the opportunity granted to Lesotho to interact with investors at the Hand in Hand Investment Forum and averred is hope for tangible results to pivot Lesotho’s agriculture and economy in the positive trajectory.

The King further reiterated his commitment to continue to serve with determination and vigor as an advocate of FAO on Nutrition, and concluded by emphasizing that the opportunities that exist should be exploited for the benefit of Africa, and the world, to win the war against hunger and to curb malnutrition, using available resources, and with the technical support of FAO.

The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s full commitment to assist Lesotho in developing its agriculture sector and in transforming its agrifood system to achieve the SDGs and the Four Betters.
