Bilateral meeting with H.E. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya

Addis Ababa - Today, the FAO Director-General met with His Excellency William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, on the margins of the UNFSS+4 Stocktake in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The President thanked the Director-General for the meeting, appreciated the long-standing collaboration between Kenya and FAO and expressed his government’s gratitude for the technical support provided by FAO in all thematic areas. He informed that leveraging on technology had immensely assisted Kenya with its agrifood system transformation in various sectors including farmers organizations, elimination of waste, agrifood value chain development, and aquaculture. He indicated that Kenya required increased support for capacity building for agripreneurs.

The Director-General thanked the President for the support extended to the Organization throughout the years, noting in particular the participation of Kenya in the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference held in Rome recently, which had contributed to the adoption of the FAO Programme of Work Budget (PWB) 2026-2027.

The Director-General especially appreciated Kenya’s strategic and transformative approach to agriculture, especially the market orientated thinking towards agriculture development in the country. Finally, the Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to support Kenya with all the technical expertise needed.
